The Importance of a risk-based approach

Every organisation understands the need to manage risk. The standard risk management approach is as follows:

  1. Identify risk
  2. Quantify risk
  3. Mitigate risk
  4. Review the above 3 components on a regular basis to adapt to changing circumstances.

 While this approach is readily implemented in respect of an organisation’s physical assets our experience shows that this is generally not extended to encompass the people within the organisation.

 If people are the organisation’s greatest asset, they too, need to be subject to a risk management approach.
